La
Residencia

Hotel
Deià (Mallorca), Spain

Mountain views, warm natural light and spacious suites: Rooms furnished with distinctive antiques and beds with natural linen await the arrival of guests. Let the holiday begin.

The location

Old stone houses are scattered across the rising hill, metres-high palm trees rise up into the sky. Here, between olive and citrus groves, lies La Residencia—A Belmond Hotel, Mallorca.

Interior and architecture

When the hotel opened in 1984, the local Sheridan family, who were also art collectors, donated some of their local works to decorate the rooms. This collaboration continues to this day.

The hotel also maintains close contact with the heirs of the renowned surrealist painter Joan Miró. Mallorcan hill landscapes adorned his works. Thirty-three of his lithographs can be found in the restaurant of the same name.

A look inside

White walls, wooden beam ceilings and terracotta tile floors are the hallmarks of the hotel’s interior. The junior suites are flooded with light from their balconies, and Mallorcan antiques adorn their interiors, while guests in the executive suites can take a dip in their private plunge pools.

British interior designer Sophie Ashby redesigned Villa Robert Graves—a tribute to Mallorca’s nature and Deià’s heritage of crafts. With its fully equipped kitchen, dining room, spacious living room with open fireplace, outdoor terrace and heated private swimming pool, it offers plenty of space for families and larger groups.

Suite No. 67 was designed by renowned British designer Matthew Williamson. La Residencia—A Belmond Hotel, has been a source of inspiration for him from the very beginning. Williamson combined his own design DNA with that of the hotel, adding playful designs, hand-drawn animal and floral patterns, and luxurious textures. The hand-painted ceramic tiles by Balineum in the entrance area are an ode to Mediterranean outdoor living and provide cooler temperatures on hot summer days.

The hotel’s different rooms offer guests what they are looking for: while lovers of design will adore the colourful Matthew Williamson Suite, guests can enjoy views of the village and private garden from the Sheridan or Miró Suites.

Cuisine

At El Olivio, head chef Pablo Aranda and his team serve a 6- or 10-course tasting menu featuring Mallorcan treasures. A vegetarian option is available with 24 hours’ advance notice.

With a mix of local and international dishes and sharing platters, Miró Restaurant offers fine dining throughout the day. Mediterranean cuisine and the artistic heritage of Deià are celebrated in this picturesque location in a relaxed atmosphere. Please note, reservations can only be made for the restaurant, not for the bar.

At the Miró restaurant, a special blend of olive leaf infusion called Flor d’Oli is served to guests. This blend is hand-picked from cut olive tree branches, which are often discarded, and is 100% green and locally produced. The infusion has notes of rose, lavender and chamomile and can also be purchased in the hotel boutique.

Whether for lunch or dinner, Tramuntana Grill serves market-fresh fish, prawns from Sóller, cheese from the Balearic Islands, meat and vegetables from the region, and olive oil from the hotel’s garden. Green juices and fruit smoothies will satisfy guests’ culinary thirst.

In interactive cooking classes or mocktail workshops, guests can also put their own skills to the test and familiarise themselves with Mallorcan cuisine.

Wellness & Relaxation

Early risers can take a walk at dawn with a private guide to watch the first rays of sun rise above the coast of Mallorca. Others may find relaxation in a yoga class held in the hotel’s tranquil gardens, offering the perfect opportunity to find inner peace while on holiday.

Apart from select suites with private pools, La Residencia—A Belmond Hotel, also offers two outdoor pools, a heated indoor pool, a sauna, whirlpool and spa. The latter offers a selection of signature treatments such as massages and facials.

Surrounding area

The Serra de Tramuntana is a mountain range stretching almost 90 kilometres across the north-west of the island. Two reservoirs, Gorg Blau and Cúber, lie between the mountains. Gnarled olive trees and dry stone terraces characterise the landscape.

Activities

A sporting challenge: Surrounded by the Tramuntana mountains, experienced players and beginners alike can refine their technique on the hotel’s tennis courts and purchase top-quality equipment in the pro shop. The hotel has partnered with LUX Tennis and provides professional tennis coaches on site.

Experiencing the islands rich culture: On a two-hour walk, Cecilie Sheridan, curator of the hotel collection, guides guests through parts of the hotel and the village of Deià, introducing them to local artists and their works.

Sweet treat: Guests can learn more about the important role bees play by visiting the hotel’s beehives in protective gear, followed by a honey tasting.

Out to the sea: The hotel has its own boat, which sets sail from the port of Sollér and offers guests the opportunity to explore the island along the coast.

Stunning panoramic views: Originally created to mark the hotel’s 40th anniversary in 2024, the 4-hour long Bianchi bike tour takes visitors through villages and towns on the island such as Valldemossa, Bunyola and Sóller.

Nature calls: with the help of an experienced guide, guests can explore peaks, hidden valleys and lush landscapes on a hike through the Tramuntana Mountains, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. For those seeking more adventure, visitors can explore the island’s tranquil waters by canoe or discover hidden caves on an excursion.

Immerse yourself in the world of Miró: a visit to the Fundació Miró in Palma offers insights into Joan Miró’s sources of inspiration during his 27 years on the island. His home and studio house original works of art, eclectic paintings and unconventional sculptures.
