What once began as a hobby has now developed into a well-known brand in the region. Even Beyoncé has worn their jewellery in music videos. A fact that few people outside their country know about. Šarić and Nuhić use ancient printing techniques to create minimalist, modern and graphic jewellery made from zinc and brass plates. Their techniques include copperplate engraving, aquatint, drypoint, mezzotint and also soft ground. The once small workshop has now grown into a team of several people.

Which place do you currently call home and where do you work on your projects?
Both of us live and work in Sarajevo, the capital of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Do you have a favourite place in your area where you like to relax and linger?
Lejla: I cherish the the tranquility and serenity that mountains in our country offer, so I often find myself embarking on long hiking expeditions, seeking out hidden trails away from the hustle and bustle of city life.
Ajla: Spreading out a blanket in a serene scenery of nearby mountain Trebević, surrounded by the laughter of my 2 little girls, sounds like a perfect relaxation to me.

Are there any urgent political issues or problems in your region?
The political landscape in Bosnia and Herzegovina is marked by complexity that stems from historical legacies and ethnic divisions. People of our country often find themselves grappling with themes of identity, memory and the struggle for unity in a post-war society. Complex political structure that isn’t rarely being referred to as the world’s most complicated government system, leads to divisions, stagnation and slow pace of reforms.
In your opinion, what has developed well in the last 5 years – and what has not?
There have been advancements in certain areas in the last 5 years, such as infrastructure development, improvements in technology adoption, growing cultural initiatives and movements that advocate social changes. However, there is a lot of space for progress in the political, economic and social landscapes.

Bazerdžan is a fantastic destination in Sarajevo for those seeking unique and locally made items. It showcases a variety of handmade crafts, textiles, ceramics and souvenirs crafted by local artisans. In Banja Luka, Galerija Plus is a cultural hub that showcases the works of both established and emerging artists across different fields including jewelry, paintings, sculptures and photography. Another fantastic concept store is located in Zenica, named Studio Elosso, offering unique handcrafted pieces of local fashion, accessories and home design brands.

Do you have any favourite newspapers or online magazines? And how do you keep up to date with politics or social and cultural issues?
In our studio, the radio is on constantly, serving as our primary source of information on ongoing political, cultural and social events. Lately we enjoy listening to podcasts from Klix.ba, and also follow local lifestyle magazines such as Bonjour.ba and FBL.ba. These platforms offer a glimpse into the cultural landscape of Bosnia and Herzegovina, helping us to stay connected with local happennings.
Imagine you could be mayor for a year – what would you change?
We’d commission local artists to weave their magic into every corner of Sarajevo. Our streets would be transformed into an open-air gallery, a testament to the power of art to uplift and inspire. After showcasing the transformative power of art, we’d fight for the rights of artists to be recognised and valued, advocating for policies that enable artists to register as professionals, ensuring they have access to resources, support and recognition for their invaluable contributions to our cultural landscape.
One last question: If you could choose another place to live – regardless of financial or time constrains – which one would you choose?
Ajla: I would see myself in a coastal town in Dalmatia.
Lejla: I would move to my mountain house in Herzegovina any time.
