Stankov’s art is rare, stylish and eccentric – his small sculptures testify to rigorous dedication and extensive research. Each work bears witness to his deep connection with Bulgaria’s cultural heritage and creatively combines folklore with contemporary elements. For this reason, he also focuses on visualising the sound of the Bulgarian bagpipe Kaba Gaida – with intricate 3D objects and jewellery. These pieces capture and represent personal sound memories.
Inspired by his mother, a fashion designer, Stankov was drawn to art at an early age, sketching her models and immersing himself in the world of creativity. Today, Stankov also creates customised pieces with precious and semi-precious stones, demonstrating his ability to combine past and present. Most of his pieces are made using fine silver and gold wire and advanced electroplating techniques.

I don’t follow much the political life.
In your opinion, what has developed well in the last 5 years – and what has not?
In general the artistic scene is continuously developing although there was a slower pace during covid.
On the other hand the budgets for art education are progressively being reduced.
Do you know a hidden gem when it comes to local manufacturers – whether it’s arts and crafts, sustainable products or food?
First off all I would mention the Wouters & Hendrix, known for its avant-garde designs and playful pieces. Therefore I’ll quote Delvaux – a luxury lether good brand and Serax, that offers a wide range of products.
And finally the design studio, Dim Atelier, that focuses on creating unique, handcrafted furniture and interior objects.
